Our photo diary
“The lodge in pictures, kept season by season”
A diary in photographs, kept by the staff and a few patient guests: the shed, the kitchen and the tables.
About the diary
“Pictures taken on ordinary evenings”

We keep a diary of photographs because the lodge changes with the seasons and we like to remember how. The pictures below were taken over several years by Renee Wells, Gareth Clarke and the occasional guest with a good eye and a steady hand. None was staged.
You will see more food than faces. That is deliberate. The lodge asks permission before a guest appears in any photograph, and many prefer not to. The people you do see, in the kitchen or at the host's desk, work here and agreed to be shown.
The pictures of the casino room were all taken before the doors opened, when the tables were empty and the lamps were lit. We think the room looks best that way, and it keeps the evenings of our guests private.
If you would like to see a particular dish or corner of the building, write to the booking address and we shall add it to the diary. If you would like a picture removed, please say so and it will go that day.
The diary is arranged without captions on purpose. We would rather you looked at the grain of a table, the steam on a pie or the lamp over the door, and made up your own mind about the place. Questions about any picture are welcome at the host's desk, and the answer is usually a story.
Some pictures show the lodge in the cold months, with the stove lit and rugs on the verandah chairs. Others were made in the warmer months, when the doors stand open and the evening light reaches the far wall. Both are true to the building, and both are worth seeing.
